5 bad habits to avoid in the pursuit of success in 2023

By: Justin Williams: CEO of Taino Studios

One day this year tragedy struck in 2022. When I was teaching within my first classroom- I got a phone call that no one wants to receive. I got news that my father was dead. I began to slowly fall into a deep depression. I began to wake up later and later as the foundation I set for myself deteriorated into self loathing.

In turn, this impacted the output of my creativity. Now, I share this story counterintuitively because the narrative of the hero's journey has become diluted and over monetized in American and European media. Every one seems to want to have have a story of triumph which is rooted in tragedy. As an optimist, it is imperative to balance a hopeful outlook with realism in order to remain grounded in the dark depths that is inevitably tied to human experience.

With that, I propose to you my dear reader that you, instead begin today- and leave the sorrows of yesterday for the choice of joy and rapture, make today the first day of your future. Not your past. ( Thanks Koule & S.Y )

Here are 10 bad habits that can stifle your progress towards your goals in the upcoming year and I wish you the best of luck.

Inconsistent sleep schedule

Making your bed is the first step in taking control of your day. There are numerous factors of our life in which cannot be controlled. For instance, others motivation to become versions of themselves. Another's loyalty. And others opinions. There's a quote from a book I really enjoy from Napoleon Hill's " Thinking to grow rich ".

He essentially says opinions are the cheapest commodity on earth because everyone has one. Try to develop a routine of consistent sleep where you are going to bed earlier and waking up earlier. Life is uncontrollable, however, your life is one factor that is utterly under your control and be can be a sense of stability when life inevitably goes turmoil.

2. Leaving your bed undone

Habits begin at the micro level and I prefer the small changes that will eventually lead to long term evolution. I learned this from a book called " atomic habits "

3. Not planning the day before

In a previous blog post, I write about a coach that I had that stress " The day before the day before. " There's also another simple saying that supports my key point. " One who fails to plan, plans to fail.

4. Eating out

This one is the most difficult bad habit to break in order to become financially free. That is information that is typically taught in public American education. That is why is a self education is paramount in the endeavor of becoming the top of whatever you want to do in life. While eating healthy is important. Utilizing moving and viewing it as a resource and a tool to take care of you is equally is as cardinal.

Meaning, you might want to limit eating to once a week and none at all eventually. The money saved can literally be used to invest in that dream project you may be putting off or to travel to that destination you've always wanted to go to. choice of Long term success superimposes the gratification of instant pleasure.

5. Not being faithful to yourself

Have you ever cared about somebody's future more than you cared about your own and then ended up being left feeling empty? That's because you are pouring from an empty glass. This year is the perfect opportunity to start being Unapollagetically selfish- and no that's not a bad thing.

Many people do not understand the art of saying no. Saying no is the boundary we set around ourselves in order to steer life in the direction in which is desired. Your energy is yours and it's a priviege to live a life in which your needs are all met by you. Social media, food, and especialy other human being do not have the capacity to meet all of our individual needs and it is countern productive to conciously or unconciously seek from others before we turn inward. This year try carving out a bit of me time and choosing your own best interest.
