My life as a Booksman, student, and artist.
By: Justin Williams
I thoroughly enjoy reading and watching “ Day in the life“ post from other content creators. So I’ve figured ill share my own. This is a look into my very busy non- traditional life style. But, I need to publish this post right now, before the fluidity of my day sweeps me away in a wave of opportunity and growth. That may or may not be sarcasm. I’ll let you figure that out.
I work full time as a social worker, as well as a full time student at my local HBCU, double majoring in Studio Art & Social work. Before any other institution driven path, I walk my own as a creative. No I haven’t made kids. and I really don’t want to. But, I do take care of a delightful Bull Mastiff named “Clifford.”
So this part of my work day is not just a work day, but a nurturing day. I look at my various roles & responsibilities as plants in which need the be consistently watered with light.
7:00 ~ 10:00
I usually set an alarm for 6:00, which gives me time to ground myself. I have no clue how the day will begin or end. But with humble intentions the day will be of my choosing, from then on, I hit the gym where I box and weight lift. If you didn’t know I was a fighter- now you do, but remember to remain gentle with me, as the sport itself is an art form. Moving on, after I’ve completely suffered & pushed through mental barriers, I shower, eat, and prepare for day.
10:00 ~ 11:00
I sit down at my writing desk after taking a look at my education, physical, spiritual, & business goals. On my goal board- I have precisely how I will achieve each one, given an allotted amount of time. Some call them SMART goals. The secret to my productivity is each day has its own theme, for instance, Monday is blog writing day & Tuesday is a studio day for me.
11:00 ~ 12:00
After honing on a goal- my thoughts are organized & there is a clear vision as to what the day will look like leading up to the bigger picture. Next, I open up the doors to the book store for all the curious souls to come in, and endings in sweet literature.
12:00 ~ 12:45
At this point in the day I am working on course work for University. I graduate with my bachelors in Studio Art this Spring and my Bachelors in Social work next Fall. Now it has become evident that I am out of the bubble. for the past year, for the first time in my life, I have secure housing, money for bills, work that is meaningful, challenge, and excitement.
1:00 ~ 3:00
Im in the zone making my dreams happen. Depending on a couple moving parts, I will put different skills to use, applying them to projects I’m working on. Some of them intuitive, most of them are intentionally planned to serve the mission of Taino Studios.
Wow. There’s a lot of projects dropping soon, & I’m utterly grateful. Lately I’ve been chopping away at:
. Creating work for Gallery representation
. Creating affordable prints & posters
. Ordering and shipping books
. Hosting book Clubs
. Engaging in prison reform
. Managing clients for creative services
. Writing this blog
. Youtube Content
. Planning & marketing for Workshop Wednesday series
